Dewey Center

Guest column in the Southern on the proposal to cut the budget of the Center for Dewey Studies at SIUC by half. Seems cutting the budget on a marquee segment of the university is penny wise and pound foolish but then the university did manage to lose the U. S. Grant collection of papers to Mississippi State University several years ago.

  1. A previous SIUC higher administration was responsible both for the loss of the Grant Collection and the untimely demise of Professor Simon. The Dewey Center's problems arise from the Republican agenda to destroy higher education and make universities responsible for the state's future work force needs nexclusively. after all, you don't want students to think critically?
