Interesting read about Faner Hall. The building was not designed riotproof, as it was designed long before anyone anticipated civil disturbances on campus and you CAN walk from one end to the other without going outside, as long as you do not mind cutting through some department offices.
Maybe, but remember the Cold War climate that preceded the riots, and Governor Reagan's attacks on UCLA etc. Nothing like anticipating the future and using the whole place as a prison if enrollments drop even more. In recent memory, a former Chancellor's plans for a Police Academy and department of Homeland Security on campus also reveal another use of "educational space.".
ReplyDeleteIf I remember rightly, the Center for Vietnamese Studies on campus during the 1960s was funded by the CIA.
