I thought Applebee's might be moving into the eastern half of our local IHOP (International House of Pancakes), as the company which owns both chains has done in other locations. However, there is a For Rent sign up in that half of the building so I guess the company has other plans for both buildings.
Their plan isn't to move into an empty space next door. That wouldn't cut costs as they would then be responsible for a new lease and the costs associated with that.
ReplyDeleteWhat they have done in others ares is to literally move into the same space as IHOP. Use the same kitchen, the same seating area, etc.
So two revenue streams out of one existing kitchen, etc.
I don't know if there are plans to do that here but the rumors are strong and from a business perspective it makes sense as Applebees had decent sales here...they just had trouble with staffing, etc.
You are right. Looking at established versions of the restaurant, each restaurant has its distinctive decor taking up one half of the space and a common kitchen. Carbondale likely does not do high enough sales to justify a remodel.
