City Council Candidates

The Daily Egyptian gathered the candidates for the upcoming City council elections, in a safe way of course, and asked them the following questions:

What is your idea of creating positive contributions to Carbondale during your term if elected? How do you plan on doing so? Please be specific.

Community members have expressed a concern about a lack of accountability and city council member engagement. If you are elected how do you plan to stay engaged within the community and contribute to an increased level of accountability.

In general the candidates said they would be "accessible"  although that means different things to different candidates while their responses to the positive contribution question are all over the board.

  1. Were there candidates missing from the forum?

Also from the article, "Three out of five candidates will be elected for a four year term in the city."

There are nine candidates according to the explore Carbondale website, and the sample ballot posted on the County Clerk's webpage.

  2. Looks like a case of bad editing on the DE's part. As you point out, there are 9 candidates. Unless they dropped out, which seems unlikely, Joshua Liechty and Tyrone Taliq Montgomery are also running, although not questioned by the DE
