Climate change has devastated the waterfowl hunting industry in southern Illinois. The number of ducks taken dropped by 40% from 2017-2018 and the number of geese wintering in southern Illinois numbered only about 1000. Back in the 1990s, the various wildlife refuges in the region wintered over 1 million geese.
