If you plan on getting one of the residential or employee downtown parking permits, you can pick them up in the office where you pay for city water and sewer. Be sure to take an ID and know the license number of the vehicle for which you are getting the permit as the permits are not transferable between vehicles. The process takes about 5 minutes and the city even laminates the permit for you.
