Growth?

The city is touting its growth of 2.4% between July 2000 and July 2008. while any growth is good, that works out to an average .3% per year. That could easily be due to the natural growth of the city, rather than any influx created by the new building Asst. Manager Baity cites.

  1. But considering the drop in enrollment at SIU, it is a positive. We could have lost maybe 2,000 in city resident students since the year 2000. Also, Carbondale has traditionaly suffered from typical urban flight, so this is showing the city has some life. Annexation might also have increased the numbers.
