Stop Lights

Really wish the city would change the left turn lights on the stop lights in town to only yellow and green, no red. I can see being cautious (yellow) when making a left hand turn across oncoming traffic but having to sit there while the light is red when there is no oncoming traffic seems a waste of both time and gasoline. State law does say that turning left on red onto a one way street is legal, although city government may pass ordinances making doing so illegal

Streetlights

Noticed the same two blocks of streetlights off last night, the stretch between Walnut and Main along Illinois avenue. They were off the previous night as well but on earlier this evening. Will be sure to check and see if they are on when I head home tonight.

When they are off, it certainly  emphasizes how brightly the other lights illuminate the rest of the Strip.

Street Lights

Noticed the street lights are out for a two block stretch between Walnut and Main along S. Illinois. North of Main and south of Walnut the lights are fine. Been out for a couple of days now. It is remarkable how much darker the streets are without those high intensity lights.

Lights

I do like seeing the Christmas lights left up year round on the light posts around the town square. I would like to see brighter lights on the west half of the Square. Once you get away from the sidewalks, which are well illuminated along Illinois, it gets pretty dark around the Pavillion> I have felt  some trepediation at times walking arcross the Pavillion parking lot after dark. I will have to take a look tonight and see if the lighting there has improved with the new lights the city installed on the east half of the Square.

Lamppost Lights

Glad to see the city has left the lights wrapped around the lightposts on the town square and Main and Walnut streets through the historic district. Makes both areas look much brighter. Now if we could get some lights in the trees on the square, it would look really festive year round

Signals

If you are driving west on Walnut, the signals at Main and Poplar have been out since sometime Sunday Morning. No indication as to when they might get restored. Looks as if a car hit the signal control unit.

Update:  Looks repaired now.

Mill Street Traffic Light

Getting reports of problems with the light directing traffic from West Mill onto University. Apparently the light is staying red so long that cars running it. I recevied an email from one driverwho said he timed it Saturday night after seeing cars give up waiting for it to change and the light stayed red for over 10 minutes before he gave up waiting and pulled through.

I know there has been resurfacing on West Mill for the past few weeks and wonder if some adjustments were made to the timing of the lights there that has not been reset.

Christmas Lights

Have noticed a lot more Christmas lights and decorations still up, over a month past the holiday. Spotted a lighted Nativity scene this morning on 127, there are several houses with lights still on them in the West Sycamore and West Walnut area and a number of places still have Christmas wreaths on windows, doors and walls. I just do not remember this amount of outside Christmas decor remaining up so long past even Epiphany in past years.

I am happy to see the lights still up around the Carbondale square. The center of the square gets pretty dark and unwelcoming after nightfall so anything that adds a bit of brightness to the area is welcome.
