Fire

 Fire near the corner of Sycamore and Oakland. Would be willing to bet it is the 2 story apartment just west of the intersection on the south side. It had sustained some fire damage a couple of weeks ago and was just waiting for someone to come finish the job.

Fire department had it under control after a couple of hours.

Church Fire

Appears last February's fire at the Walnut Street Baptist Church was arson. This afternoon, Carbondale Police arrested Ramil Mize as a suspect. No motive given and the investigation is ongoing.

House Fire

House Fire at the corner of North Oakland and West Willow, about 10 a.m. this morning. Police, fire and ambulances all present with traffic on both streets at the intersection blocked off.
 

Ash Street Fire

 Fire on East Ash street this morning about 1:45. Apparently no one injured but the apartment building collapsed.

Apartment Fire

 Appears both the apartment building and the house next to it on West Monroe were empty so no injuries from the fire. Of course, the question then becomes, if no one lived in the apartments, what caused the fire? I imagine the police and fire departments are still investigating to see if there was criminal activity .

Apartment House Burns

 The 3 story white apartment house on West Monroe, just east of the intersection of Monroe and Poplar, burnt to the ground this morning. The blaze started sometime between 9 and 10 am and both the building and the house to the east of it were destroyed by the fire. I have heard conflicting reports as to injuries. One person said several people were injured in the blaze and another source said everyone got out safely.

Update:  according to the media, no one was injured although the house next door was damaged enough to be uninhabitable as well.

Fire Trucks

Expect to hear about another large fire on the west side of town tomorrow. At least 4 fire trucks with sirens headed west on Main street early this afternoon.

Pine Manor

In case you missed it, Pine Manor burnt last night. Bed and Breakfast and conference center just west of Carbondale and South of Highway 13. At least 6 Carbondale fire trucks headed out that way  to help put out the blaze.

I got to walk through the building several years ago. Never realized that such a large and upscale facility existed in Carbondale.

Fire at Old Drver's Junction

The Old Dover's Junction building, which has stood for a number of years at the intersection of 127 and 146 east of Anna/Jonesboro burned today. Still smoldering late this afternoon when I shot this photo. No idea what caused it but certainly does not look like a controlled burn.
