Campaign Offices Emptying

Noticed that Tammy Duckworth's campaign office on West Walnut had emptied out as of late afternoon today. Sheila Simon's office next door still had lots of material stacked around though, although the signs had come down from the windows.

Never did see any offices for any of the other candidates in Carbondale, though I would bet the local Green operations were located in someone's house.

Campaign Literature

Was flipping through he campaign literature clogging my mailbox last night and read through the tabloid paper sent out by the Jackson County Democrats The write up on Sheila Simon especially bemused me as it manages to get two paragraphs before mentioning her father was Paul Simon. I liked this sentence "Family has been and continues to be an important part of Sheila's life." What family is mentioned? Not her husband, not her kids, nope it's her parents. In fact, she's the only Democratic statewide candidate, bedsides Jeremy Walker, whose family is mentioned in the writeups. Even Lisa Madigan's writeup doesn't mention that her dad is Mike Madigan.

Other Simon Sightings

Had my attention called to a couple of other Sheila Simon Sightings. Once at the Susan Barnes' Dance recital last month and a more overtly political one up in Bloomington

Simon Sighting

Haven't heard much from Sheila Simon since her ascendancy to the Lt. Gov. candidacy so glad to see Gov Quinn putting her to work. From the Governor's weekend schedule:

At 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 12, Lt. Gov. Nominee Sheila Simon will attend the Metropolis Annual Superman Days Celebration, Market St., between 6th and 10th Sts., Metropolis.

Green Party and Simon

Amusing that Rich Whitney first compliments Sheila Simon for her selection at the Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor, then in the next paragraph slams the party for selecting her rather than Art Turner, who came in second in the actual primary, saying that choosing her takes for granted the African American vote.

Of course, as the Archpundit points out, the Democratic party is running three black candidates for statewide offices versus the Green Party's one. You can justifiable criticize Simon for not running for the office during the primary, or for having little experience in elected office, but to bring race into it is just silly.

Sheila Simon bio

Huffington Post Chicago has a bio of Sheila Simon up. Who knew the Lt. Gov.'s race was going to attract this much attention outside of our area? Though I never quite visualized C'dale as a right leaning city. Maybe it is to someone out of Chicago.

Quinn/Simon Kickoff

Or in this area, it's probably Simon/Quinn. At any rate, the campaign will hold a rally this afternoon at 5:30 in front of Shryock Auditorium. Thanks to Mary O'Hara for passing this along.

Lt. Governor Post

I see past city council rep and erstwhile mayoral candidate Sheila Simon has thrown her hat in the ring for the Lt. Governor position on the Democratic ballot. It's amazing how many people want the job now that they don't have to go to the trouble of campaigning for it. At last count, 46 people had announced they were seeking the position.
