Liquor Advisory Board

The LAB has a meeting this Thursday at 6 p.m. If you have an interest in knowing which bars in town violate city regulations regarding serving alcohol to underage patrons or other violations, this is the meeting to attend as the Board will look at the first quarter's reports. Remember, the city's year runs from July to June or thereabouts so the first quarter just ended. The following is also on the agenda:

Review and Recommendation Regarding Possible Title Two Change in City Code that Would Permit the Delivery of Sealed Alcohol by a Licensed TNC/Taxi Driver

Given the increase of delivery services in Carbondale (CarGo comes to mind), I guess home delivery of alcohol is the next step. Probably makes things safer for people, since we won't have the people planning to consume the alcohol also driving out to pick it up.

Streamlining Liquor License Process

I see the council is moving ahead with its plan to streamline the process by which a restaurant or bar gets a liquor license, possibly by eliminating the review function of the liquor advisory board. It doesn't appear there was much announcement of the plans to modify the function of the LAB, since LAB chair Don Monty didn't know the council had plans to look at the function of the LAB. If the chair of the board didn't know about plans to modify its function, it's a pretty good bet the rest of the community didn't know either. As Monty noted, when looking at the agenda, it wasn't particularly clear which agenda item related to the proposed revamping of the LAB.

Liquor Advisory Board Meeting

The LAB has a meeting this Thursday next week. A pretty light agenda though, mainly a Fair Days request for the upcoming Carbondale Music Coalition's downtown concert. Also, John Alexander who owns Sidetracks will speak to the LAB. From what I understand, the 99 year lease the owner of the building has on the railroad property on which the Sidetracks building stands will not be renewed when it expires next year, as the railroad wishes to demolish the building since it sits too close to the tracks for today's safety standards, meaning Sidetracks will need to relocate:

Application for a Class F1 liquor license (temporary sales of beer and wine only) for Carbondale Tourism and the Live on Main Concert on Friday, October 9, 2015 to be held on South Illinois Avenue between Elm and College Streets

In case you've nothing better to do this Thursday, or are interested in the liquor levels in Carbondale, the Liquor Advistory Board meets in room 103 at the Civic Center at 5:30. On the agenda, applications for Class B2 and C liquor licenses for Pinch Penny Pub and Liquors and the Copper Dragon, as well as a discussion of proposed revisions to the liquor code. Can you say "Supermarket sales of beer?"
