Appears SIUC's chancellor is looking for new pastures as Austin Lane is a finalist for the presidency of New Mexico State University. From what I have read, his advancement to finalist rests primarily on overseeing the first growth in SIUC's enrollment in a decade. Of course the growth was fairly small, about 400 students if I remember correctly. I would want to see a few more years of growth before giving credit to his Imagine 2023 plan. One year does not a turnaround make.
Quite right. A deafening silence seems to reign on this and other matters on the comments issue of the DE and Southern. He has only been here four years, hired after the BOT and others knew of his being fired from his last job, and we do not know how many of these students are "boots on the ground" or online ones from those Texas Community Colleges he has been promoting. Whatever the case, this is another damning indictment of how SIUC higher administration functions that also has disastrous consequences fr the economic health of the local community. Questions will obviously occur as to WHY he is leaving in such a short time?
ReplyDeleteFrom what I have heard, he has staffed the top postiions at SIUC with a lot of compatriots/cronies from his former positions. What will happen to them should he get another position? Poor dears, left in the Lurch?
ReplyDeleteJust like the Poshard era! Will this institution never learn?
