Mary Lou's Closed

Mary Lou's has a sign posted on the door indicating that they would close for the immediate future and announce a reopening either on the door or on their Facebook page.  Looks as if they are now offering specials via FB like 16 biscuits and gravy for $25 in limited quantities, which sold out in about 12 hours.

I find it interesting that both Thai Taste and Aban Kitchen, in the same block, are able to do well enough with takeout that they can remain open, while Mary Lou's cannot. Granted the epidemic affected Mary Lou's more than the other two, forcing the restaurant to change its model and start accepting credit cards, which it had resisted for years but still, the other two operate under the same space limitations as Mary Lou's with no outside dining. Maybe because Mary Lou's caters strongly to breakfast diners or because the atmosphere at M;s is a major selling point?

  2. The atmosphere is unique - uniquely unpleasant! When I went in the winter, the gust of wind that blew in with each door opening had me and my gravy frozen and congealed. And I make better biscuits at home. If they are not going to follow health department regulations for a deadly pandemic, I wonder how they feel about other regulations in the kitchen. I won't be back.

  3. I have gotten to go lunches for years and have eaten inside. Most people like the "unique" atmosphere of a small town diner, homestyle cooking and really great service. And Marilyn is a true character, she treats her customers like family. She has a loyal following of regulars who eat their everyday. As of today where back to tier 2 mitigations with restaurants and bars back open with occupancy limits. Granted the place is small, so maybe limited seating and delivery just won't cut it. A shame.

  4. Mary Lou's will reopen on Tuesday. Pag's opened up last night as the state moved to Tier 1.
