Downtown Carbondale's El Greco got a huge boost in sales yesterday after its social media post about declining sales. The problem for the restaurant is, will this keep up? It is one thing to stir up people and get them into your place of business for a one-off event but quite another thing to keep them coming in and eating.
Nationally, restaurant sales have dropped over the past few years, a combination of supermarkets offering prepared meal options, a shift to high end and low end restaurants, an increase in takeout and delivery (which reduces the likelihood of impulse purchases off the menu) and fewer people opting to eat out for lunch.
