Phone Scam

Someone is working a scam in the area in the name of the fire department:

The Carbondale Fire Department wants to warn residents about a possible impersonation scam circulating throughout the community.
A resident recently reported receiving a call from a person who claimed to work for the Carbondale Fire Department. The caller wanted to know if the resident had a smoke detector, fire extinguisher and escape plan.
Residents are reminded that firefighters do not call homeowners and try to sell them anything.
If you receive a call like this, contact the Carbondale Police Department at (618) 457-3200. Never give out any personal information over the phone such as credit or debit card number. When in doubt, hang up.
