Re-organizations

It appears the planed re-organization of SIUC is going ahead. I still have never head a good reason for it. Maybe there is one and it is being kept internal. Seems to me the ONLY reason to reorganize the university is to benefit the students. Students come to SIUC to get a degree. They do not particularly care about the department or college is organized. In fact, if they and the university do a good job, how the university is organized should never impact them.

Is the re-organization going to save money, make the university run more efficiently? From everything I have heard, it always sounds as if the upper echelons of SIUC want to reorganize but do not have a reason for doing so.

Re-orgainzation

I would be a whole lot happier with the Chancellor's  proposed reorganization of the departments and colleges at SIUC if he could point to some places where this style of restructuring has proved successful in the past. So far, all I ever here is that we show do this. I guess someone has got to be first but before undergoing such a drastic restructuring, shouldn't the university try other things first. like maybe a strong effort at promoting itself?

SIUC Reorganization

Inside Higher Education doesn't appear particularly impressed with the Chancellor's planned reorganization of the University either. The article notes there are concerns with negation of college operating papers as well as a one size fits all approach to the restructuring. In addition, with the elimination of department chairs, their duties would fall upon current faculty members, increasing their workload as service activities, which is required of all faculty members are part of their terms of employment.

Chancellor on Reorganization

Chancellor Montemagno spoke on WSIU this morning regarding the proposed re-organization of the university and I am still not certain how the reorganization will attract more students. Students come for programs and degrees. The quality of the program and how well it meets their needs and interests is what they look for. I still haven't heard how this reorganization will address that.
