College Athletics Costs

Since we are heading into football season, I thought this report from Moody's Analytics of about a year ago proved interesting. Roughly 90% of college athletic programs do not cover their own costs and require supplementary funding from the college. In addition, the amount of debt taken on to build snazzy new stadiums ties up the funding available for other programs and capital investments leaving other projects cash-strapped.

Saulki Stadium 2

As Shawn points out in the comments, the photo he shot was taken before kickoff. 15,276 people showed up in time for the game, nearly filling the stadium, which officially seats 15,000. BTW the Salukis delivered a royal drubbing to poor Quincy, 70-7.

SIUC Football Attendance

Thought this was interesting. Attendance at the last regularly scheduled game in McAndrew Stadium was 11,500, give or take. Attendance at the first game of the playoffs for the division 1A Championship, 5860. Granted it was cold, but it was still a playoff game for the divisional national championship.

Rams in C'dale

The St. Louis Rams are looking at SIUC as a location for one of their training camps sometime in the future. Won't happen until after 2010 as that's the earliest projected date for the rebuilding of McAndrew Stadium
