For those of you wanting to experience a southern Illinois tradition, the Ohio River Ferry Authority has secured another licensed pilot and the Cave In Rock Ferry resumed regular hours today. If you visit Cave in Rock, a trip across the Ohio on the ferry, just to turn around and come back, is certainly worth a half hour or so of your time.
Daily (more or less) commentary on news and events in Carbondale and the Southern Illinois region, with occasional excursions to other locales.

Cave In Rock Ferry
The ferry at Cave In Rock has shut down due to high water on the Ohio River. Probably will not reopen until Feb. 24 and means an extra 35 mile drive for those who normally use it. Also will cut inton Cave In Rock's tourist business as the ferry is a major attraction for the town.

Cave in Rock Ferry
Glad to see the Cave In Rock Ferry will resume year round hours starting next month. By my calculations, it transports about 335 cars per day. Of course, no idea how many of them just take the ferry from one side to the other, turn around and ferry back.
