Alley Lighting

 Remember the T-Mobile grant Carbondale Main Street got last year to upgrade lighting in some parts of downtown Carbondale?  Judge Services finished work on the first project, the alley running just north of Aban Kitchen, criss crossing overhead strings of lights from Illinois Avenue to Pickle's Alley. Have not seen them turned on yet so have no idea how bright they are.

Aban Kitchen uses the alley as a pick up location for their to-go orders adn the new lighting will make it brighter for customers waiting in the alley and safer for staff members bringing out the orders. There are two more locations in town scheduled for similar upgrades.

 From what I hear, the new owners of Aban Kitchen have fired all of the previous staff. Not sure if that includes kitchen workers but would assume so.  Maybe there were problems with the staff but, given the business is pretty successful, one would think they would want to change as little as possible, at least to start.

 According to this post on their Facebook page, Aban Kitchen has found a buyer. The new owner will take over in January of next year. I am glad to see the restaurant is staying open as it certainly fulfills a niche in Carbondale.

 According to a post on their Facebook, Aban Kitchen on South Illinois is up for sale. You can either buy the whole Aban operation, including the name and recipes, or all of the restaurant equipment and fixtures and assume the lease.  If there is no sale, the owners will close up operations at the end of the year.

From what I can tell, the business is profitable but the owners are relocating out of the area and hope to sell to someone who will keep the business open and staff employed.

Aban Kitchen Temporarily Closed

Aban Kitchen, which only opened about six months ago, posted this sign on the front door this week, indicating that they are temporarily closed for "renovation". I hope that it all it is but, given how long it took them to get open and to have to close for renovation so soon after opening doesn't look good.

Aban Kitchen Open

Aban Kitchen, located in the old Mary Lou's location on Illinois, opened Labor Day and has been doing quite well it seems, especially with carry out. Closed on Sunday, open 1 to 10 p.m. the rest of the week, save for Friday when they open at 2 p.m. They have both a breakfast menu with items such as Mogulgul and Shukshooka and a dinner menu with items running a bit higher. Items on both menus are offered all day though. Reviews of the food have been quite good

Aban Kitchen, located in the old Mary Lou's location and serving Mediterranean cooking, had a soft opening on Labor Day. The OPEN sign has been on the last couple of days and at least a few diners have eaten there.  Still has a "Help Wanted" sign in the front door though.

Aban Kitchen, specializing in Mediterranean cuisine (no idea what part of the Mediterranean they refer to) will open in the old Mary Lou's location. The sign says "Opening Soon" but I have been told they would open in about two weeks, several times this summer.
