Took a walk down Illinois after the Lights Fantastic Parade Saturday night and was amazed at the lack of trash on the street. Given the thousands of people that watched the parade, I had expected to see a lot more garbage but either the city did an exemplary job of cleaning up after the parade finished or that many people were exceedingly litter conscious during the event.
I saw a crew with "keep Carbondale beautiful" signs (city workers? or maybe volunteers? not sure) who walked behind the last float with trash receptacles in hand. They were asking for everyone's cups/garbage as people were leaving the parade route. I think having the reminder to pick up plus having easy access to trash disposal helped, too. Whoever organized it was thoughtful and did a good job, I agree.
