City Funding

Found it interesting that the city was able to come up with the extra $20,000 per year for Chief Grubb's salary, covering both his salary increase and the stipend covering the expense of him maintaining a residence in the city as well as his home outside it, given that council, citing lack of funds, has raised sales and property taxes 4 times over the past decade or so, sales taxes 3 times and property taxes once by my count.

  1. How difficult is it to simply post a want ad and get someone to move here for the job? Seems like that would be worth the $20,000 savings to just give it a shot. I have a hard time believing that the job market is such that you'd have no applicants.

  2. They didn't have great luck doing that with Jody O'Guinn, though I am not sure why he was fired, since that has never been made public. No idea how many other candidates applied for the position. Something to check.
