Disney in Marion?

Certain am not going to count the area covered by the STAR bonds out.  From what I have heard, second hand, Disney (yes that Disney) has a substantial investment in property to the north of Marion. Based on Disney's track record of property investments, it is highly unlikely that the company would invest in anything that it was not certain would bring about substantial returns over the long term.  Disney Marion, anyone?

  1. I've been hearing this rumor for years, specifically a version where Disney Marion is built on the wetlands north of town. How solid is your source?

  2. works in the area with connections to the ballpark. Disney Marion certainly possible but doubtful given the lack of easy airport access for tourists. Had someone point out that Disney World is where it is because of cheap land at that location, however Florida was a tourist destination long before Disney located there. Cannot say the same about southern Illinois.

  3. Can you imagine that Disney is going to do something really big in Marion, but that will be the first project like it in America? I can't. If you really want to know what Disney might do, go look at what they are doing elsewhere.

I missed this projects press coverage before. I love the idea that there are 25M people, within 250 miles of Marion, and they are dying to drive over and be tourist there. :) Just cracks me up.

  4. That's why I hold faint hope for the proposed Marion water park, as it never seemed like something that someone was really behind. Always felt like a project that was being build to draw people rather than as a labor of love, like the original DisneyLand or Santa Claus.
