After opening with a lot of ballyhoo last fall, it appears Kelly's Irish Boxty House gave up the ghost over the summer. There's a sign in the window saying it would re-open June 11 after break, and this notice was posted by the Jackson County Health Department on Sept. 4th, telling the owner not to reopen without contacting the Health Department regarding food.

Underfunded business, with a product that no one has ever heard of, in a business with unlimited competitors, goes out of business. The restaurant business sure isn't for the faint of heart is it?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I can't believe nobody wanted a Caribbean-themed Irish potato pancake. I didn't think business plans could get much worse after the blue plate diner/upscale martini bar, but obviously, I was wrong.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand, the one in Champaign does quite well. Opening up downtown so close to finals and Christmas break didn't help create awareness.
